Want to know more about the SSMB? Of course you do!

As members of the Sacramento State Marching Band, we strive to create a community which reaches beyond the field of rehearsal or performance to impact the lives of our community and members. We will make every effort to represent the university and the SSMB with pride and honor at all times, and in all situations whether personal or professional. The result of our attitudes and treatment of each other will be reflected in optimal perfoamnce and rehearsal etiquette enabling us to achieve our goals as an ensemble.

Who are we?
We are the Sacramento State Marching Band. We are the largest (and, most fun, we'd like to think!) spirit organization on campus.
What do we do?
Quite simply, we represent and boost the spirit of the California State University of Sacramento. We accomplish this by performing halftime shows at home football games, playing pep band music at basketball and volleyball games, and
giving performances at high school band revues. We can usually be caught having a good time while doing so!
Where (and when) can we be spotted?
We can usually be found on the practice field near the Hornet Stadium during the Fall semester on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 3:30 PM - 5:50 PM practicing our latest halftime show. You can also catch us suited up in the stands and on the field on most Saturdays at football games in the Hornet Stadium!
Why do we do what we do?
Simply put, we have a good time. We enjoy the camaraderie of being a part of a group of performers, and we love playing challenging music that gets the crowds at sports events up on their feet!

Does it cost anything to join the band?
It does not cost anything to join the SSMB itself, but you will need to purchase a standard music fee card from the Music Department for $40. Purchasing this card entitles you to borrow
an instrument for the semester, pays for minor instrument repairs that may be needed throughout the semester, allows for the usage of a locker in Capistrano Hall, and allows for use of the practice rooms and the listening center.
Do I have to audition to join the band?
Nope. If you have experience as a musician or colorguard, you're welcome to join us!
Do I need to know how to march in order to join?
Nope! We will gladly teach you how to march within the first few weeks of the marching season. No experience in marching required!
How long does the marching season last?
Typically, our marching season begins at the tail end of August (with colorguard, percussion, and band camp!), and ends roughly in the middle of November.
If I decide to join the band, what kind of time commitment am I looking at?
We practice for roughly 6-7 hours during the week, split between three days. If there is a football game during the weekend, most of your Saturday will be spent in the Hornet Stadium performing music. Joining us would take a considerable time commitment, but we'd like to think
it's not terribly demanding on your social and academic life!
Are there any perks to joining the band?
Aside from having a lot of fun? Sure! Every year we travel with our football team to an away game. We call this Tour. In the past we've travelled to Washington, Oregon, and Disneyland in Southern California. The best part of going on Tour however, is that it is FREE. Not to mention you also
get money for meals! It's not a bad deal.
Are you guys that marching BandDUH?
Hahaha...! No.
